As you all know. Airbourne are one of the hottest new bands to breakthrough into the mainstream around the world thanks to one rocking awesome album I reviewed earlier this year and non stop touring!
I’ve already seen the guys once in a sold out small show holding just 200 people. (read review HERE)
Now I’ve seen them again. Whats the difference this time?
Since then the band have sky rocketed in fame. Having singles all over TV and doing huge tours in the States with bands like Slipknot, Machinehead and Dragonforce to name a few.
Now the band are back in the UK. This time playing bigger venues to bigger crowds. Noticeable changes in the fanbase were quite shocking. Gone were the hoards of denim jacket and leather jacket wearing rockers. (where did you guys go, I was the only one?) Now metalheads and just “normal” people in general. Perhaps the hardcore rock fanbase think the band have sold out? I don’t know, I don’t think they have, I like that they are playing bigger shows.
First on was a band called… yes I actually can’t remember, they were that uninteresting. I think it was Fire and Fury. They were kinda like a punk band really from the States. Nothing interesting to say other than the rhythm guitarist had a lot of onstage energy which was fun to watch.
They were followed by a band called “Stone Gods”. Stone Gods are a British rock band formed by former Darkness members Dan Hawkins and Ritchie Edwards. You can tell they have touring experience with big shows. I’m not a huge fan of the music, but they put on a great live show and Ritchie Edwards was a great frontman tasked with warming the crowd up for Airbourne. I’d say check them out live if you can, they put on a good show.
Then came on Airbourne, thundering on the stage with familiar set opener Stand Up For Rock N’ Roll. The band played pretty much all of the “Runnin’ Wild” album and threw in a track off their old EP called “Dirty Little Angel”. The band never stopped moving, with a much better sound set up this time and a bigger stage. They totally conquered the crowd. The Crowd, was indeed “Runnin Wild” from the bands show. Airbourne prove once again they are one of the best live acts around at the moment. Even better now Joels voice had healed and he has clearly had some vocal coaching now to sing better. Even if you don’t like their music so much, I’d definitely recommend you go see Airbourne live if you want a big rock n’ roll show with a band that put all there energy into dominating the stage night after night. It surprises me that after 3 years of touring the band have not yet burnt out.
Awesome show. Awesome band.
Go see them!!!
