Lynyrd Skynyrd Keyboardist, Powell, Found Dead

Posted in Newz on January 30th, 2009 by Dr. Feelgood

powellAged a mere 56 years old, Billy Powell, keyboardist from Southern Rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, was found dead in his condominium in Orange Park, Florida, on the 28th of January.
Powell had rung 911, at gone 12 a.m. and complained that he was having trouble breathing.
The paramedic team made it to his apartment, and found him in his bedroom lifeless, yet still clutching the phone. Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the musician but he was pronounced dead an hour later, Orange Park Police said. They later went on to stating that he had a history of heart problems, and also, his cardiologist will sign his death certificate, opposing the need for a suggested autopsy, as the reason has been put down to a probable heart attack.
He had infact missed an appointment with his Doctor, the day before his death.

Powell joined Lynyrd Skynyrd way back in 1972 (After working as their roadie), and he played on their hits such as the infamous “Sweet Home Alabama.”
The band have cancelled upcoming concerts, but are still going ahead with their European tour in mid 2009, including gigs in London, Manchester and elsewhere in May and June.

Well, at least he’s free now in Rock N Roll Heaven.

Steelheart documentary in the making

Posted in Newz on January 26th, 2009 by Dr. Rock

Dana Altman of North Sea Films has announced a green light on production of “GOOD 2B ALIVE”, a documentary film about singer and composer, Miljenko Matijevic AKA “SteelHeart”. The film will be a detailed look into the extraordinary life of Miljenko and his music; an incredible journey back to the stage after the devastating accident in Denver Colorado during his performance at the “McNichols Arena. In 1992 on Halloween night SteelHeart had already a platinum selling album under their belt and their second album on its way to gold, when it all came to a screeching halt.
A lighting truss collapsed and crushed him to the stage, removing him from the music scene and his life’s passion. In a sequence of, what can go wrong, did go wrong is the thread to this incredible true story of human perseverance, the resurrection of a Rock Star. An inspiring journey of the human spirit; how one man keeps the faith regardless of the odds. The producers are planning the final shoot to take place at a free festival called “GOOD 2B ALIVE”, in Zagreb Croatia, Miljenko’s birthplace. This festival is anticipated to be the first of many around the world.

LION’S SHARE – New Album Artwork Unveiled

Posted in Newz on January 26th, 2009 by Dr. Rock

clip_image0041Swedish melodic heavy metal masters LION’S SHARE has unveiled the cover art for its upcoming sixth full-length album, “Dark Hours”.
LION’S SHARE will release its new album in late March 2009 via Blistering Records. The follow-up to 2007′s “Emotional Coma” was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (OPETH, SYMPHONY X, PARADISE LOST, AMON AMARTH) and features guest appearances by SYMPHONY X guitarist Mike Romeo (guest solo on “Behind The Curtain”), and drummers Conny Pettersson (from Earache Records death metal act ANATA) and Richard Evensand (CHIMAIRA, SOILWORK).

“Dark Hours” track listing:
01. Judas Must Die
02. Phantom Rider
03. Demon In Your Mind
04. Heavy Cross To Bear
05. The Bottomless Pit
06. Full Metal Jacket
07. The Presidio 27
08. Barker Ranch
09. Napalm Nights
10. Space Scam
11. Behind The Curtain
12. King Of All The Kings (bonus track – limited-edition digipak and Japanese version)

The band states: “The new songs are simply awesome and everybody that has heard it thinks it’s our best album to date. The red thread lyric-wise on this album is that all songs are about things that happened in the late Sixties; a decade known for many good things. However, we’re not describing the happy times of the Sixties: We give you the ‘Dark Hours’. Musically, it’s more straight-forward and faster than ever. The songs are filled with energy and great hooks.”

LION’S SHARE’s most recent album, “Emotional Coma”, was released in the U.S. January 29th, via Locomotive Music. The CD was issued by AFM Records in Europe and Spiritual Beast in Japan/Asia and features guest solos from ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, and ex-MEGADETH guitarist Glen Drover.

With Mastino in the rehearsal room

Posted in Mastino on January 24th, 2009 by Dr. Rock

I just followed my brother and his band, Mastino, to their rehearsal room. I brought my camera and recorded some stuff, my favorite song is “Work in Progress”, you can see it below:

The audio quality isn’t the best, its not recorded with any professional equipments, just a DV camera, that is around 10 years old.

I will publish more songs from this session, but for now, visit their myspace if you want to hear “Work in Progress” and along with other songs recorded with better audio quality

Drugs is bad, Steven is good

Posted in Gossip, Videos on January 24th, 2009 by Dr. Rock

As you have heard, Steven Adler is on the show “Sober House” where they bring in people with drug addiction, to help them get as much sober as they can on the period they are inside the “Sober House”. My guess is that they might get better, not 100% free from it. As Nikki Sixx said at an interview/in his book, a person will get a flashback from that period and might start with the drugs again, after a long break.

Well in Steven Adlers case its just sad. We all know him as the drummer on the album “Appetite for Destruction”, but he had a problem with the drugs and got kicked out for not playing correctly, if I remember what I’ve read. Well he is in the “Sober House” and is trying to get rid of the drug addiction, or at least take some off it away.
I feel really bad for this guy, heavy drugs aren’t something too play with, it can totally take your body from you and do what ever it wants with it. Well I saw this new clip from the newest episode, check it out:

I want him to be sober, and I want Guns n’ Roses to get back together, full line-up, the first line-up, the line-up we all love, from their first album: Axl, Izzy, Dugg, Slash and Steven. When will it happen, will it ever happen?

Any thoughts on this, please add a comment about it!
