Update: By the way, I freakin’ love these samples, can’t wait for the album to come out on Spotify or something. It really sounds like they have worked their asses of to do this album, it is all well done and everyone does what they were meant to do, especially Michaels voice on “On Fire” and “Blackout”, but his voice really fell into places on “Heaven and Hell”. So what are we going to do when this album is released? Well, RUN TO THE CLOSEST RECORD STORE AND BUY IT (or order it on the net)

Good job guys, keep em’ coming, and don’t forget us Swedes!

Stryper to release a new album

Posted in Stryper on May 11th, 2010 by Dr. Rock

Oh My God (haha, you get it?) Stryper will release a new album this fall, this year, yeah really. Check out the letter from Michael Sweet below:

Hey Everyone,
Just as promised, I wanted to outline some more details regarding the new Stryper record. We grew up listening to many different styles of music and there is a list of bands that influenced us throughout our musical education. Bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Van Halen, UFO, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kansas and many others, helped to shape our sound and make us who we are today, musically speaking. We grew up on the streets of LA playing every club in town from Gazzari’s to The Whisky to The Troubadour to you name it. We played covers from all the bands mentioned above and we shaped our own sound from listening and performing songs from these classic bands. We wanted to step outside the box and record a record that shows you, the fans, where we come from – our historical, musical roots so to speak. It’s a side to Stryper that no one has really seen or heard before, or at least quite like this. We performed “On Fire” by Van Halen on a few tours and we also performed “Breaking The Law” by Priest on this last tour. The response was far beyond our expectations each time we performed these songs. People seemed genuinely surprised to hear Stryper cover these songs and even more surprised to hear Stryper perform these songs relatively well. This will be an opportunity for Robert, Oz, Tim and myself to loosen up and have some fun. For those of you who may think that we’re walking away from our faith – your wrong. We’ve never been more serious about our faith at any point in our lives. It is however important to enjoy what you do and lighten up from time to time. That’s what we plan to do. This will be a fun record to make and we hope that this comes through, as well as the chance to showcase the abilities that we’ve been blessed with. More details to come and a specific song list and sequence to follow. We’re looking forward to geting back into the studio and more important, to seeing all of you on the road again this year!

Be well, be blessed and let the games begin,

//Michael

Awesome indeed, and I can only say that I am looking forward for this one, yet again. Murder By Pride was good, and way better then I thought it would be, considering that some 80s band doesn’t do good stuff anymore, or at least aim at sounding like they did, which people really loved. Peace out and have fun this coming weekend, let us all pump out some Stryper songs from our speakers, maximum volume!

Tragic event falls on the Sweet family

Posted in Stryper on March 8th, 2009 by Dr. Rock

news-sweetI couldn’t come up with a better title for this post, but I feel that I have to write a little something about the most recent event in the Stryper world, especially concerning Michael Sweet and his family.
2 years ago Kyle Rae Sweet, wife of Michael Sweet, was diagnosed the stage 4 ovarian cancer, and the struggle have now ended in the most tragic way. She have now left this planet, but hopefully for a better place without horrible diseases.

Rockhospital.com sends our condolences to the Sweet family and friends.

Stryper guitar replicas now for sale

I am a huge fan of Stryper, their music is just perfect, and when I was looking at their merchandise shop I found these awesome replicas of their cool looking guitars:

And I have not bought them, how cool is that? I hope they will come to me before Christmas day so I could put them down in a box and rap it so I could put it under the tree, an awesome gift for myself so to speak.
If you got the money I think you should by them, if you are a die-hard fan like me. Would be something to remember them by when you are 50 years old.

Then and now: Stryper

Posted in Stryper, Then and now on December 5th, 2008 by Dr. Rock

Almost like something from a comic book, some kind of hero team, like Fantastic 4. Well as a matter of fact, Stryper is a Christian heavy metal act that was born in the beginning of the 80s, 1983 to be exact!
Their music is like an orgasm every time I listen to them, a flash of genius, and how metal should sound like. These dudes can master the soundwaves that goes around in the air, and among the audience.
But maybe they might have overdone it with some of their early accessories, but who cares when they deliver something with full force?

Stryper is a must, you have to listen to their tunes, even thou you might think Christianity doesn’t go with heavy metal, these guys shows the differ. I was very glad to see that they was booked for SRF in ’06, but was very sad when they canceled the show, to perform on a Christian festival, I can understand that in some way. SRF might too diabolic for them, but I want to hear them and I want them to have the biggest audience they can get while attending Sweden, a mecka for rock music.

They do look much wiser and sophisticated nowadays, but that doesn’t stop them to put on a great show, from what I’ve seen on youtube, these guys can still bring what we want!

Have a listen at their myspace, you will be blessed! You can also read more about them on their wikipedia page.
